Renfrew Nipissing MPP, Mr. John Yakabuski, Illuminates Pembroke Curling Centre with Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant
In a sweeping gesture of support for local sports and community spirit, the Pembroke Curling Centre (PCC) was the proud host to a special ceremony on November 18, 2023, headlined by none other than Renfrew Nipissing MPP, Mr. John Yakabuski. The event marked a significant milestone for the PCC, as it celebrated the successful installation of a state-of-the-art dehumidification system for its ice barn, along with a comprehensive upgrade to the lighting systems in the main hall, kitchen, washrooms and the golf simulator lounge on the lower level —modernizations made possible by the generous Capital Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
This dehumidification system, a first for the PCC, addresses safety concerns by reducing the frost on the ice, thus preventing the surface from becoming "greasy" and ensuring a consistent curling experience. Moreover, it heralds a leap in energy efficiency, with the dry air allowing the cooling systems to operate with less strain. Not to be overlooked is the third benefit: the potential to extend the playing season, much to the delight of curling enthusiasts.
The lighting update casts a new light on the PCC's facilities, replacing the original systems that had been in place since its inception in 1968, with energy-efficient fixtures. This forward-looking project ensures the present and future demands of curlers and the community will be well-served, and enables the PCC to continue as a beacon of athletic excellence and fellowship for years to come.
